Smaller Protests Occur Around the Globe

At least 500,000 people protested impending war with Iraq in Washington D.C., San Francisco, and dozens of other American cities today. Another large anti-war rally is planned in New York City on February 15th to coincide with protests across Europe.

From DC: "For perhaps the first time in history, a massive march of people against war was on the loose in the nation's capitol, controlling the streets and showing no signs of stopping. A sea of people stretching more than one mile long and taking up four lanes of roadway marched through the nation's capitol Saturday in vocal and colorful opposition to the U.S. government's drive to war with Iraq." 워싱턴 DC: "아마도 역사상 처음 있는 일로써, 전쟁에 반대하는 대규모의 행렬이 거리를 장악한채 멈추겠다는 신호도 없이 미국 수도에 퍼져나왔습니다. 인산인해를 이룬 사람들이 2키로미터 정도 늘어섰고 4차선 도로를 차지한채 토요일 워싱턴가를 행진했습니다. 그들은 미국의 대 이라크 전쟁주도에 대해 반대하면서 다양한 목소리를 냈습니다."

The crowd stretched continuously from the foot of Market St. and filled the Civic Center to capacity. 샌프란시스코: "이라크 전쟁을 벌이지 말 것을 요구하는 대규모의 반전시위가 오늘 샌프란시스코 시내에서 일어났습니다. Market St.부터 Civic Center까지 시내 전체에 끊임없이 군중이 늘어섰습니다. 나중에 오후가 되자, 약 천명의 사람들이 급진적인 반자본주의 이탈자 무리에 합류해서 금융가의 유리창을 부수고 공공건물에 낙서를 하면서 호전적인 행진을 했습니다."
